With the help from a lot of people, I finally put together a set of four postcards of the cherry blossoms in Tokyo.
3月11日の東日本大震災を受けて、私は「東京の桜」をテーマにした4種類のポストカードを制作しました。使用した写真は震災のあと東京に足を運んで撮影したものです。
The original plan was to sell these postcards and donate all the proceeds to the Japanese Red Cross Society, through the organization's Hong Kong branch.
当初は香港赤十字社を通じてポストカードを販売し、売上の全額を日本赤十字社に寄付する予定でした。
I sought help from the Red Cross, especially in getting their recognition of my event - in case potential donors suspect their money will be slipped into my pocket rather than the victims'. However, due to some rigid requirements they demand (including "You need to finish your fund raising activity in one week because we are wrapping up our donation events for the Japan quake" and "I cannot endorse your charity event because you are an individual, not a registered company, association or school"), I had to give up this idea and distribute the postcards for free instead.
しかし、
１． まもなく日本向けの義援金受付を締め切ること
２． 企業、団体、学校などではなく個人の活動であること
を理由に、香港赤十字社の協力を得ることができませんでした。
赤十字社を通さずに個人的に販売を行うと寄付金の着服を疑われてしまう可能性があると考えたため、今回はポストカードを無料で配布することにしました。
I suppose care for humanity is universal and shouldn't be bounded by a wrap-up date or whether you act as a person or on behalf of an organization.
本来は義援金受付の締切日や個人活動であることを理由にチャリティ活動が規制されるべきではないと思っていますし、当初の計画のように義援金収集に携わることができなかったことは非常に残念です。
While these cards may no longer bring any material help to those who needed, I hope they can at least serve as a warm reminder to you that there are still a lot of post-quake issues deserve our attention: the crippled nuclear plants and future use of atomic energy, the deteriorating government finance... and above all, the people who survived from the disaster and rebuilding their homes.
義援金の収集活動はできなくなってしまいましたが、ポストカードの無料配布を通じて日本が直面する様々な問題――原子力発電所の事故、今後の原子力発電のあり方に関する問題、経済の悪化、そして何より、今回の災害で被災し、生活の再建にむかおうとしている人々――にむけた暖かい支援の輪が広がっていくことを願っています。

A Japan-based organization that coordinates relief efforts of 33 non-governmental organizations in Japan, including World Vision, Save the Children and Red Cross.
